Spaghetti Festival

The advertisement says about a Spaghetti festival in the Kian Center. Building spaghetti structures which is my favorite is one the programs of this festival. Then cooking the best food with macaroni and teaching how to cook are the other ones!

You may remember my spaghetti Eiffel Tower, I will take part in the competition of spaghetti structures with the Eiffel Tower of mine on Thursday, so please come here again if you like to know the result ;)

Luster Shop

There is a big street in Mashhad with many light & luster stores. Last night when we crossed there, most of the shops were closed.

Personally I do not choose such golden lusters. I like silver ones with artistic models.

Guys, please forgive me for my delay to updating the blog. These days I am more busy than before. University works does not allow me to update the blog regularly.

The Last Week of Year I

We have just 3 days to finish the year 1387. Every things show us the spring. I can feel the smell of flowers well. People are busy with their shopping these days as they seem so happy and hopeful with all their life's difficulties. A week before Nowruz we have "Beneficence Celebration". Iran's government builds many stations in streets to collect people's charities for poor families. This is the best way that we can divide all our joys with others.
Today morning, I went out with my mom to shop since 8:00 Am and it was so enjoyable to take photo for me. I always loved the last week of the year, the lovely city of the last week is a different one and I am sure that such city is just in IRAN. I wish you could be here and feel the smell of LOVE and PEACE here.

In the confectionery, people buy their favorite sweet such as traditional Iranian pastries like baghlava for new year and their gusts (this is a custom that people have gathering parties with their relatives in the new year). The number 88 shows the year 1388.

And we bought fish & fresh vegetables, too.

Why remember Ashuora ?

Why is Imam Hossein regarded as the "leader of the martyrs" ? It is because he was not just the victim of an ambitious ruler. There is no doubt that the tragedy of Kerbala, when ascribed to the killers, is a criminal and terrible act. However when ascribed to Hossein himself, it represents a conscious confrontation and a courageous resistance for a sacred cause. The whole nation had failed to stand up to Yazid. They had succumbed to his will, and deviation and regression towards the pre-Islamic ways were increasing.Passiveness by Imam Hossein in this situation would have meant the end of Islam as we know it. Thus Hossein took upon himself the responsibility of the whole nation. The greatest tragedy was that one who stood up for the noblest of causes, the defence of Islam, was cut down in so cruel a manner.It is for this reason that the sacrifice of Hossein is commemorated annually throughout the Muslim world. Our sorrow never abates as we relive the tragedy.

In Iran many people from other religions like christian and Jewish strongly believe in Imam Hossein as well as they take apart in Ashoura gatherings and respect Imam Hossein. This is a good example that shows the great event of Ashoura is not just for Muslims.

Some people use a kind of simple chain (called Zanjir, without knives or razors) to beat their shoulder just to make noise not to harm themselves.

Every day is Ashoura and every place is Karbala.Yeah, That is right. These days many innocent people experience Ashoura event again as Gaza became the other example of Karbala. How we can be quiet?! What is the difference between us and those who did not help Imam Hossein in Ashoura event?!

Armaghan Athletic Center

I went to take photos for my new project today morning. The building you see in the picture is "Armaghan Athletic Center" in Framarz Abbasi Blvd, near our home. A big center with many facilities for kids and adults such as; pool, gym, roller skate salons and etc. This is located beside a beautiful small Park which is named Resalat Park. Now for the project,we should design a cultural center in this site. It would be a difficult planing!

Takhti Square

Here is Takhti square.One of old parts of Mashhad and my dad neighbour when he was a child.The appearance of this square is changed but the name of it is still Takhti.Takhti was the most famous wrestler in Iranian history. He was most famous for his chivalrous behaviour and sportsmanship, and he continues to symbolize the essence of sports to the Iranian people.

In 1961, a terrible earthquake occurred in Boein Zahra in western Iran, killing 45,000. Takhti was deeply touched by the suffering. Already one of Iran's biggest stars, he began to walk one of the main avenues of Tehran, asking for assistance for the victims. He inspired other champions to follow in his footsteps, and thousands gave to alleviate the suffering.
Another example of his character comes from a match in Moscow. After defeating the then world champion Anatoli Albul, Takhti saw the sorrow on the face of Albul's mother. Takhti went to her and said, "I'm sorry about the result, but your son is a great wrestler." She smiled and kissed him.
And another memory of him that clarifies his character more: Once he had a match with Russian wrestler Alexander Medved who had an injured right knee. When Takhti found out that he was injured, he never attacked the leg. Instead, he tried to catch the other leg. It shows that he valued honourable behaviour more than reaching victory.Alexander Medved, out of respect, has visited Takhti's grave many times in Iran over the years.

A shot of Old Mashhad near Imam Reza holy shrine.Most of the building near here are old and the government try to bye and destroy them and build new constructions instead.The designs have to follow the Islamic style that you see in the photo.Architects and engineers won't be allowed to use modern concepts and architecture near the holy shrine.

Sanabad Street

Today is the last Saturday. Thank you my friends for your kind comments and sorry for not visitng your blogs for a few days. I'm busy these days with getting ready for my big trip. Portland Daily Photos will start working on Friday, September 19. Sara will keep Mashhad Daily Photos alive and active during my long absence. She will start posting her photos on Tuesday, September 16. I'll support her with my visits and comments.

In the beginning of the 9th century, Mashhad was a small village called Sanabad. It was not considered a great city until Mongol raids in 1220 which caused the destruction of many large cities in the Greater Khorasan territories, leaving this place relatively intact. Thus the survivors of the massacres migrated to Mashhad and it became larger.

Sanabad Street, which is one the most famous and oldest streets, is the original place of the old Sanabad village in this city.
