Bush of Grape

We have a small garden in our apartment's yard. Yesterday I visited Dim's photoblog of McKinney, Texas and saw a photo of a vineyard in one of his recent posts and I thought of taking photo of our samll vineyard. We have a big bush of grape in our small garden.

Modern Pedestrian Bridge

The blue covered part of this pedestrian bridge is a escalator; it encourages more people to cross the road through the bridge and it also helps children, old and disabled people to ascend/descend the stairs. Thanks guys in the Transportation & Traffic Department of the city! It's really helpful in this crowded crossroad!

Africa Cinema & Zist-Khavar (East Life) Center

Africa cinema is one of the oldest cinemas in Mashhad; the orange building on the right of the pic which has a red-color sign.
Zist-Khavar (which means East Life) Shopping Center is the tall building on the left. It is an old structure too.

Emam Hassan Mosque

Blue and turquoise color are the most common colors used in our traditional religous architecture related to Islam religion. Most of the historical mosques in Iran, which belongs to 200 to 700 years ago, are colored with blue, turquoise and sometimes light green, dark blue and white. This is Emam Hassan Mosque which is not an old mosque. It has been built not more than 5 years ago but it is clear that it was tried to follow the Persian-Islamic traditional architecture in desgning and building this beautiful structure. Now it is one of the most prestigous mosques in Mashhad.

Monument of Martyrdom

At first I couldn't recognize what this monument is going to show. But after a few minutes looking at it, I found it. It seems there are three piegons or butterflies (or any other bird) are rounding around a tulip. Its designer did the best I think. It's a small and simple monument but with lots of meanings. You see, all parts of the monument, birds and flowers, are connected to each other, but they looks like there are not (see the first photo). Anyway, it's nice.

The Large Street TV

Recently, a big street TV has been set up in Malek Abad Boulevard, close to Khayyam Intersection. It often displays advertisements. I am thinking of a day that it shows an important soccer match, then lots of people may gather there to watch the TV. It must be interesting.
There is also a traffic control device near the TV; a traffic camera which sends the intersection's images to the Traffic Control Center (TCC) through a wireless system. You may see the antenna on the top of the pole. What if the person in the TCC likes to watch the TV (the soccer match), he/she turns the camera to the TV instead of intersection and watches it ;)
A scientific thought: I think the light of the TV affects the quality of camera's images. Don't you think so?

LRT Subway Sign

Can you guess what this sign is? (I know the answer)
Answer: It is the LRT subway sign (Light Rail Transit). You see, there is a train moving from left to right to a tunnel. The entrance of the tunnel in this image looks like the Holy Shrine of Emam Reza in Mashhad (or looks like all the mosques).

Statue of Mother

A mother's love determines how
We love ourselves and others.
There is no sky we'll ever see
Not lit by that first love.

Stripped of love, the universe
Would drive us mad with pain;
But we are born into a world
That greets our cries with joy.

How much I owe you for the kiss
That told me who I was!
The greatest gift--a love of life--
Lay laughing in your eyes.

Because of you my world still has
The soft grace of your smile;
And every wind of fortune bears
The scent of your caress.

Central Library of Mashhad

This beautiful colorful building is going to be the central library of Mashhad. I don't know the name its architecture but he/she might make the best of his/her work. The small random located windows, three colors of red, green and blue which change into each other smoothly in the height make this building really attractive. It deserves to be the central library. It will possibly attract so many readers.

Persian rugs and the concept of heaven

Wooooo!! Don't you like to sit on a flying rug and go to the heavens? It seems there are some flying rugs for sell. There are lots of these rugs in Shandiz, near Mashhad. Their design and colors are really lovely. We have two of them in our home. When we go out for picnic or any where to enjoy the nature, we bring our rugs and put them on the ground and enjoy sitting and lying on them (see the following photo, this is our rug, isn't it beautiful?). There is a deep cultural concept in Persian rugs. In the old times, people imagined the heaven and painted it on the rugs. They liked to live, to walk, to sit and to lie in the heaven. So they made their rugs like their imaginations of heaven.
